Become.com is looking for an energetic, talented, ambitious Front-End Developer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate has a desire to work in a fast paced start-up environment. Our engineers are focused on creating a web user interface for comparison shopping and vertical search. The position will assist in the design, development and deployment of our next generation front-end architecture.
The position will be an integral part of our teams effort including engineers, product managers and visual designers to build out our internal and consumer facing tools. You will see your efforts improve organic traffic to Become.com, enhance our users shopping experience, and will also optimize the UI to handle millions more queries per day.
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of web design principles, strong HTML/XML abilities, great technical know-how, and drive to create the best and most innovative design on the web. You will use XSLT, JSP, CSS/XHTML and AJAX for front end, and use Java for server-side/database integration. We are seeking team players with excellent communication skills, an ability to work effectively under a tight schedule, and a passion for logic.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement web-based user interfaces on many of the Become.com web properties.
- Work cooperatively with graphic designers and product managers to come up with UI/UX designs.
- Add new features and maintain existing features by doing end-to-end development.
- Strategize and maintain the server upkeep.
Requirements:
- 6-8 years of combined web development experience in any platform or technology.
- At least 4 years of experience in Java/J2EE technology stack.
- BS or MS in Computer Science.
- Knowledge of standards-based web development.
- Knowledge of cross-browser development issues.
- Knowledge of XML manipulation using XSLT, Xpath, and DOM.
- Knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
- Understanding of web page load speed issues and scalability.
- Understanding of MVC and their existing technologies that are modeled after it.
- Familiarity with SEM, PPC, or SEO a plus.
