Ranker, a funded and rapidly growing UGC/Social Media startup is looking for a Lead Developer to help take the company to the next level. This is a rare opportunity to join a Silicon Valley-style startup in the Los Angeles area – a relatively small team doing a highly scaleable and interesting consumer web application. Ranker launched in August 2009 and, though still very beta, is already doing over 100K monthly visitors.

We’re seeking a hands-on developer with a broad skillset and understanding of high-transaction web environments.

Required Technical Skills:

  • 3+ years hands-on experience developing Java applications in a web-based environment
  • 3+ years MySQL experience
  • Familiarity with Javascript
  • Experience using stacks and frameworks
  • Experience with our platform – Linux, Apache Tomcat, Jetty, Solr, Spring
  • Strong middleware background
  • Experience with configuring and supporting a production environment
  • Some experience with front-end development (HTML, CSS, JS)
  • You can read XML, are comfortable with webservices, JSON and AJAX

Required Attributes:

  • A proven track record of delivering successful products
  • Deep and broad knowledge, understanding of, and interest in the Web and the latest trends and business models of the Internet
  • Experience with product lifecycle development
  • Self-starter, team player, conscientious and adaptable
  • Strong work ethic and dedication to delivering goals on time

Strong Plusses:

  • Familiarity with social media platforms and APIs in the web 2.0 space (Facebook, MySpace/Twitter etc)
  • Experience working with offshore teams
  • Leadership experience/desire to become a technical leader
  • Architecture experience
  • Sys Admin knowledge/experience
