Member of Technical Staff Mobile Linux Development- Solutions and Services
The Member Technical Staff (MTS) is a technical leader responsible for architecture, requirements, design, implementation and testing of embedded software, board support packages (BSPs), device drivers, middleware, systems software and application software for a variety of mobile products developed by Wind River Systems.
The MTS must have (1) strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills with the ability to work across multiple geographies, (2) strong technical, analysis and problem solving skills, and (3) a wide range of embedded development experience on complex or leading edge product development.
The MTS works with Software Engineering teams, Product Marketing, Project Managers and customers to develop world-class mobile platforms and products. The MTS is a key member of the project team and must have the skills needed to elicit, understand and analyze customer requirements, prepare project descriptions, propose architecture and high-level design, prepare detailed project schedules, estimate hours, and summarize project technical risks. The MTS is a combination of a customer facing position involving customer interaction on fact-finding sessions, architecture discussions, requirements definitions, proposal presentations, and presales negotiations, and a internal facing technical expert who can guide the team towards success.
During development, the MTS performs technically challenging work and applies a broad experience base and strong technical and interpersonal skills for efficient design, development, and issue resolution on complex projects. The MTS is an emerging expert in one or more key technology areas and has the ability to quickly understand new technology directions or to do deep dives into existing complex systems for extensions, changes or problem resolution. The MTS is a role model and has a positive influence on customers and team members.
Requirements:
· BS in computer science, computer engineering or related subject area (or equivalent experience). MS preferred.
· A minimum of 7 years of embedded software design experience with uniformly increasing levels of responsibility
· Prior successful experience performing in a customer facing role
· Prior successful experience performing in a internal facing role
· Strong embedded application experience with a Linux-based real-time operating system (RTOS)
· Strong C/C++ programming skills
· Strong and effective written/verbal communication skills, including the ability to work across multiple geographies
· Successful track record of estimation and delivery of projects on time
· Solid decision making skills and judgment can be depended upon to meet goals, foresee and avert problems
· High level of self-motivation and requires minimal supervision
· Broad experience range covering a variety of systems, processors, and peripheral devices and experience working in multiple consumer, industrial or federal product areas.
· Should be a hands-on type of person with the initiative to dive in and do whatever is necessary to get the task completed.
· Experience with open source is recommended.
· Depending upon the specific role, some travel may be required (5%).
