Title: Platform QA Lead, Platform Quality Assurance
Location: San Diego, CA
Sony Online Entertainment LLC produces and distributes online entertainment targeted to mainstream consumers and game enthusiasts. SOE also works with Sony’s U.S. operating companies in the area of online advertising and sponsorship sales. We are headquartered in San Diego, CA with offices in Austin, TX, Seattle, WA and Denver, CO.
This position is part of the SOE Platform group. The Platform group provides infrastructure systems to the company for services such as registration, billing, customer service tools, as well as support of business initiatives such as retention and promotional programs for all Sony Online Entertainment LLC games.
The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of direct hands-on software quality assurance experience in a multi-tier client / server application. Supervisor experience a plus.
They must have experience performing hands-on testing as well as aid in the development of testing strategies and policies. This experience should involve black box, white box and/or automated testing.
In addition, they should command a solid understanding of software quality assurance aspects including the methodologies and terminology. Basic system administration experience with Windows is required. UNIX is a plus
Requirements:
BA/BS or equivalent in Computer Science/Related Field OR 2+ years of QA experience in the software development industry
Experience with authoring and maintaining test plans and test cases used for verifying software quality
Experience with a lead role in a Quality Assurance test team
Working knowledge of the software development process (SCRUM, Waterfall, Milestone, etc.), including specification, documentation and quality assurance test cycles
Strong technical and analytical skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to provide proper feedback on test team performance
Ability to manage multiple simultaneous QA projects across varying products and initiatives
Demonstrated prior experience with project management and test execution on a project and team level to successfully hit project targets
Flexible schedule
Any combination of experience/training to demonstrate possession of specific job skills
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for generating and maintaining functional test scripts used for verifying software quality
Apply product knowledge to review test cases, create schedules and provide assignments for the team
Review functional and design specifications with the product management team
Work with the Platform QA Manager in proposing and executing strategies and solutions to department test coverage goals, as well as work across teams to make those goals a reality
Coordinate efforts and communicate effectively with the Automation Engineering Team and other functional QA Leads to ensure good test coverage in an efficient manner
Actively participate in the planning, scheduling and execution of tasks required to meet the milestones set by the team throughout the product development cycle
Coordinate efforts and communicate effectively with the developers and other team members to ensure resolution of defects
Report personnel issues with QA Management
Test status reports for Development and SOE Executive Management
Identify and track defects using a bug-tracking tool
Ensure that products meet or exceed the quality standards by applying knowledge of quality assurance standards and procedures
Mentoring team members on general testing process/protocol and tools
Apply a proactive approach in the QA Process on a consistent level

Experience in one or more of the following technical areas desired:
Database: Oracle, DB2, MSSQL Server 2000, SQL, PL/SQL
Computer language: C, C++, MFC, Perl, VB
Web and/or J2EE servers: Tomcat, Apache
Operating Systems: Windows and/or UNIX
Test tools including scripting, load testing and off-the-shelf automated tools like Rational Robot, JMeter, or the HP Interactive Suite of tools including LoadRunner, WinRunner / Quick Test Pro and Quality Center.
